It is in this location that the monks have their meals. During the meal, silence reigns. As St. Benedict said, at the table of the brothers, reading must not be forgotten...absolute silence will reign so that neither rumours nor voices will be heard other than that of the reader. The monks will serve each other what is necessary for eating and drinking, so that none will miss the words of the reader.
Our refectory is found in the traditional location beside the cloister which can be seen through windows and through which light floods the room.
Guests and pilgrims eat with the community. Sometimes it comes as a shock to eat in silence, but it is also one of the experiences which have a profound effect upon our guests.
It is the monks who prepare and serve the food that they receive through the grace and mercy of God, our Father.
