The name: Mater Salutis

The name hospital comes from hospes, that is to say, guest. In the Christian tradition, it means a place to welcome those who are travelling the Camino. In olden times, many of these people passing by required special care owing to their physical deterioation as a result of walking or poverty. It was thus that the medical meaning of hospital originated which will end by replacing its original significance.

We would like to bring back this original meaning in order to distinguish this place from normal hostels. The pilgrim hospital is a place to rest, to care for the body; but also a house of Christian welcome where you can cleanse and cure the soul.

The hospital is under the patronage of Maria Mater Salutis; mother of health and salvation. There we wish to find refuge for whatever apostolic activities that we carry out.
